Job Title: Special Education Instructional Coach

Minimum Qualifications

  • Highly Qualified Licensed Teacher (K-12 Special Education),
  • Level III-A teacher or Master’s Degree;
  • Minimum of 5 years exemplary experience in teaching;

Preferred Qualifications

  • Level III-B Administrative License preferred;

 Position Description

  • This position is a liaison between the Special Services and Curriculum & Instruction departments. This coach will work with various departments, administrators, school PLC teams, and teachers Pk-12 in implementing curriculum, best assessment and instructional practices, and create professional learning opportunities to improve student achievement for RRPS students receiving special education services.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication, organizational, and collaborative skills;
  • Knowledgeable in evidence-based practices to support differentiation for teaching and learning to ensure IEP accommodations and/or modifications;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.
  • Strong knowledge of NM Content Standards and curriculum development;
  • Leadership experiences in professional learning;
  • Understanding of the vertical articulation process and professional learning communities;
  • Strong understanding of the NM MLSS Framework and SAT;
  • Strong technology, communication and training/presentation skills;
  • Evidence of data-driven decision-making skills;
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills; and

 

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Well-versed and able to provide professional learning and support for all staff to implement the district’s guaranteed and viable curriculum, best instructional practices, high quality assessments, strategies and a student-centered learning environment;
  • Ability to collaborate and network with multiple departments to ensure Special Education representation;
  • Support the department(s) by leading the vetting process as well as the design,

development, revision, and analysis of curriculum tools, apps, instructional materials, and

resources;

  • Provide, evaluate, and coordinate professional learning opportunities at the District and

school levels for teachers and school leaders;

  • Support full implementation of NM Content Standards through instructional materials

adoption process, curriculum development, and implementation process;

  • Utilize strong consulting and collaboration skills to act as an accessible district resource

to support PLC Teams in curricular planning, implementation, and continuous

improvement processes;

  • Demonstrate and facilitate protocols, systems and routines for collecting and using

student work and performance data to make informed instructional decisions;

  • Facilitate ongoing development and revision of assessments and curriculum documents;
  • Model implementation of appropriate technology to support differentiated instruction;
  • Actively pursue and share professional growth and development to keep abreast of

current educational trends and research as related to practices including instructional

technology, pedagogy, and assessment;

  • Follow district processes and procedures regarding communication with school-based

personnel;

  • Travel between school sites is expected;
  • Other duties may be assigned by Supervisor;
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations;
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.

Work Hours:  Work hours are established in employment contract.  Additional work hours may be assigned by the Special Services and Curriculum and Instruction Department Executive Directors.

                       Executive Director of Elementary Curriculum & Instruction

                       Executive Director of Secondary Curriculum & Instruction
