Description

Job Title:  Maintenance - Grounds (Unlicensed) 

Assignment:  Facilities Department, Maintenance Services Team

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of diversified grounds and landscape maintenance experience and/or training in the equaling a minimum of three (3) years;
  • Knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and materials used in grounds and landscaping; knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the maintenance trades;
  • Knowledge and experience with commercial irrigation systems;
  • Knowledge and experience in herbicide and pesticide applications;
  • Knowledge and experience in small and large mowing equipment;
  • Additional consideration will be given for certification in the operation of heavy equipment;
  • Skill and ability to drive and pull trailers with heavy equipment (non-CDL); and
  • Current New Mexico Drivers License with insurable driving record.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Manual physical labor required;
  • Performs assigned work in all of the following areas: 
    • Commercial Irrigation repair and installation
    • Mowing and care of athletic surfaces to included synthetic turf
    • Fertilization of landscape areas
    • Weed control including application of approved herbicides and pesticides
    • Proper and appropriate pruning of trees and shrubs
    • Cutting and removal of dead plantings including large trees
    • Painting and measuring of parking lot stripes, curbs and sports fields
    • Other related grounds and landscape work 
    • Snow and ice removal
  • Operation and maintenance of heavy equipment including:
    • Backhoe
    • Bobcat / skid loader
    • Pulling trailers
    • Commercial mowers
    • Tractors
  • Provides excellent customer service;
  • Upon approval of Grounds Foreman purchases supplies as needed to perform work.  Considers the purchase of materials that provide the best value to the District;
  • Receives and accurately records all work performed in the District electronic work order system. Properly accounts for costs including hours worked, materials used and contracted services used to complete work order;
  • Uses and maintains tools, equipment and vehicles assigned and assures that all is maintained and used safely as outlined by manufacturer and or preventative maintenance procedures
  • Performs all work using proper personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with Maintenance Safety Plan;
  • Assists Grounds Foremen in planning projects;
  • Serves as a consultant to supervisor in areas of expertise;
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations; and
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.

 Work Hours:

  • (8) Hours per day/245 Day Contract;
  • Grounds Foreman or Supervisor may assign additional work hours; and
  • Employee may be required to perform Emergency Call-Back.
