240-Day Contract
Job Title: Finance Specialist
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of two years’ experience in accounting, with preference given for experience in school district purchasing and/or accounting;
- Working knowledge of applicable financial management systems, word processing, database, and spreadsheet software;
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem-solving skills; and
- Interpersonal skills, in person, in writing, and on the telephone, with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or related field; and
- Minimum of two years of college-level accounting classes.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Provide compliance monitoring for school site budgets;
- Process required intra budget and budget adjustment requests (BARs) for schools and departments;
- Assist with processing Requests For Reimbursements (RFR) to include supporting documentation providing fiscal support to program administrators;
- Administer user accounts and permissions on the District’s financial management system;
- Enter manual journal entries for review and approval;
- Create and maintain general ledger accounts;
- Assist with budget creation tasks;
- Provide technical assistance to district staff on budget maintenance, record keeping, supporting documentation for RFRs, purchase requisitions, travel requests and reimbursements and other necessary reporting requirements;
- Regularly maintain vendor information and process year end vendor IRS 1099’s;
- Provide budget maintenance assistance to departments and schools;
- Assist in preparation of requested audit documents and schedules according to the audit provided by client (PBC) listing; and
- Prepare finance committee reports in excel using financial system data.

- Maintain professional relationships and work cooperatively with employees, the community, and other professionals;
- Maintain professional competence through individual and district training, in-service educational activities, and appropriate self-selected professional growth activities;
- Meet deadlines and work on multiple projects;
- Attend staff meetings and conduct, as may be necessary, training with reference to purchasing;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations; and
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.
Work Hours: Salary and work year as per adopted Rio Rancho Public Schools Staff Salary Schedule.
