Minimum Qualifications:

  • State License by the NM Regulation & Licensing Department Speech Language Pathology & Hearing Aid Dispensing Practices Board.
  • Application for licensure as an audiologist must be accompanied by the following documents:
  • A master's degree in audiology, communication disorders or equivalent degree in audiology or communication disorders awarded prior to January 1, 2007; or
  • A doctoral degree in audiology or equivalent degree regardless of degree name.
  • Proof of having earned certification in audiology from the American speech-language and hearing association (ASHA) or the American board of audiology (ABA);
  • Proof of having passed a nationally recognized standard examination in audiology;
  • Proof of having passed the jurisprudence examination with a grade of no less than seventy percent;
  • If the applicant was awarded a master’s degree in audiology or communication disorders or equivalent degree in audiology or communication disorders prior to January 1, 2007, the applicant must also provide proof of at least six months’ experience in the dispensing of hearing aids or other evidence as determined by the board in either a graduate training program or in a work training experience; and
  • If currently or previously licensed in another state, a verification of the applicant’s licensure must be sent directly to the board by the issuing jurisdiction.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform Audiological Evaluations and measure middle ear function; 
  • Able to interpret hearing loss and its impact on education to educators and parents; 
  • Able to make minor repairs of hearing aids and FM equipment; and
  • Able to assist teachers and IEP to develop appropriate accommodations for students with hearing loss. 

                             

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Assists in hearing screening identification program and provides appropriate follow-up;
  • Educate administrators, teachers and children concerning hearing, hearing loss, noise, hearing conservation;
  • Provide comprehensive audiological evaluations to children with hearing loss;
  • Collaborate with parents and other professionals to determine and implement appropriate intervention for children with hearing loss;
  • Communicate and collaborate with outside audiologist regarding hearing evaluations and hearing aid fittings;
  • Provide in-service training for school personnel, children and parents with regards to hearing loss, hearing aids, and personal and classroom amplification systems;
  • Make recommendations and manage both personal and classroom amplifications systems;
  • Assist in classroom place of students who are deaf or hard of hearing;
  • Maintains test equipment with scheduled calibration and requesting necessary repairs;
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations; and
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.

Work Hours: Work hours will be in accordance with hours determined by the District
