District Office Information Technology Department
240 Day Contract
JOB TITLE: NETWORK TECHNICIAN
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent; and
- CompTIA - Network + Certified.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate's Degree or Technical Certification in Computer Systems or a related field with 3 years experience; and
- CCENT and/or CCNA Certified.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- In depth experience with current switching technologies and routing protocols, including TCP/IP, OSPF, QOS (DSCP), VLAN tagging and other layer 2/3 protocols;
- Experience or understanding with enterprise wireless technologies;
- Expertise in network monitoring and management;
- Experience in various host-level operating systems, how they interact on the networks, and how to manage and debug network stack and network services issues;
- Experience in troubleshooting, installing, programming and maintaining VOIP phones, PBX systems, Audio/Video (CATV) systems;
- Experience in troubleshooting, installing, programming, and maintaining fire/security alarm systems and intercom/clock/bell/public address systems;
- Complex problem solving and troubleshooting skills, including organizational and project management skills;
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete documentation, records and reports;
- Highly effective communication skills, including verbal, written, electronic, email, text and cell phone;
- Interpersonal and collaborative skills necessary to support district departments, staff and vendors;
- Ability to meet deadlines and work on multiple projects;
- Organized work habits and project management skills;
- Strong skills at working both alone and in teams, and providing technical leadership and support to both team members and clients; and
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as found appropriate and acceptable.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Has constant access to confidential information and works with administration on management policies and investigations, therefore must respect and safeguard sensitive, confidential or privileged information;
- Conduct needs assessments as related to computer networking;
- Procures technology equipment and maintains ethical business practices with vendors as required by state-approved Code of Ethics and school board policies;
- Prepare and maintain accurate and complete documentation, records and reports;
- Provide network support of school and district networks;
- Develop solutions to method of installations to ensure smooth operation of the network system;
- Install, maintain, and upgrade routers, switches, servers, wireless access points, and other network related equipment;
- Collaborating with ITS Technicians and Educational Technologists on network related issues;
- Responsible for dealing with tier 2 networking tickets;
- Responsible for the deployment, maintenance and upgrade of VOIP phones, voicemail accounts and PBX system configuration;
- Responsible for the deployment, maintenance and upgrade of UPS units; and
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.
